I'm Alyssa Curtis,

A creative biologist exploring the intersection of science, film/animation, and narrative design - shaping ideas from concept to final products with careful planning and design.

Background & Mission

My Honors Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Utah taught me how to conduct research, work collaboratively, problem-solve, and think systematically - all skills that inform my creative process. Additionally, my recent fellowship as a plant biotechnologist for the USDA-ARS within Walt Disney World's EPCOT center, surrounded me with people from diverse backgrounds ranging from creative to STEM. Growing up, I have always loved creative writing and to draw in my free time, but my original career goal was to work in the medical field as a cardiothoracic surgeon. Throughout highschool and college I participated in many different activites towards medicine and art. In high school, I was in Musical Theatre, an officer/member of HOSA, member of Science Olympiad, member/co-presdient of French Club (where we recieved 2nd Place in French Choir at BYU in 2017), President of Rotary Interact Club, and in my senior year I interned at a Cancer Institute.

At university, I particpated in volunteering, 3+ years of research, clubs (like NSLS), and took a variety of classes to gain an multidisciplinary mindset. I additonally took classes in film, games, and animation, eventually obtaining a Minor in Animation, which not only strengthened my interest in entertainment but also helped me break down complex topics in my STEM courses and research through visual storytelling. For example, in my Parasites and Pathogens course, for the class's "Parasite Film Fesitval," I created a 2 1/2-minute animation on an obligate insect parasite known as Entomophthora muscae. Where I won the class "David Attenborough Award." The process of fully producing and directing this project, from planning, scripting, storyboarding, animating, sound production/voice acting, and post-production, was incredibly inspiring. It fueled my passion to continue working in a creative field where I can explore how diverse fields can come together.

My current career focus is on creative production. As a creative producer, I aim to guide projects from concept to reality, striking a balance between creativity and structure. I am passionate about collaborating with others to bring ideas to life, and I am excited about the potential of this role to explore the convergence of diverse fields in a creative context.
